Jay Electronica has been around for a minute - actually, several years - but I didn’t start listening to the New Orleans-based rapper/producer until this recent video, Dear Moleskein, produced by my fellow Jersey brethren Just Blaze (whom I interviewed for The Source umpteen years ago). Anyway, I loved the visuals, I loved the lyrics and I loved the originality. When’s the last time a rapper showed his spiritual side? That’s hip-hop.
Jay still doesn’t have an official album out - he’s about as indie as they come - but Kevin Nottingham.com, one of my favorite hip-hop websites, has an excellent primer on the talented artist. Cop it.
